The Dirty Sanchez Tacos™ StoryIn the rich and colorful history of the Mexican Revolution, tales of bravery abound. None are more interesting than the stories of the brave women—the soldaderas—who fought alongside their more famous male counterparts. In addition to their soldiering duties, the soldaderas were often responsible for the care and feeding of the troops. Once such woman was Adelita Sanchez, whose fighting skills were instrumental in winning the Battle of Yuriria. Her willingness to “get her hands dirty” in the heat of battle earned her the nickname la sucia or “the dirty one.” But she won even higher praise for her fastidious mastery of the battlefield kitchen tents. It was rumored that a meal cooked by “Dirty” Sanchez was so delicious it could shake the hangover right out of the drunk and give a wounded soldier strength to return to the fight. We honor Adelita's memory and her no-nonsense approach to life and to food. |
